Description
Chicken embryo extract (CEE) is a cell culture medium component used to supplement certain growth medium formulations. CEE provides a source of essential growth factors and has been employed for the expansion of various types of stem cells. Processed chicken embryos are filtered through 0.2µm sieves and aseptically loaded into vials. CEE is available in two formulations: lyophilized or frozen liquid.
The successful in vitro culture of rat neural crest stem cells (NCSC) and other neural explants requires a specialized neural crest stem cell medium (NCSCM). Supplementing with CEE provides a critical source of growth factors. Additionally, CEE has been successfully used for the expansion of numerous specific stem cell types and has demonstrated the ability to promote DNA demethylation.
It is typically used in cell cultures at concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 2%.
